About Clan Lyon Tartan

The Clan Lyon Tartan is a distinctive tartan design associated with Clan Lyon. It is made up of a combination of blue, green, and yellow stripes, which are believed to represent the colors of the Lyon family crest. It is worn as a sign of pride and belonging by members of the clan. The tartan is available in varied products such as kilts, scarves, fabrics, and more. The Lyon clan crest features a lady in the center, richly attired, holding a thistle in her right hand, all in proper colors. The tartan is registered in The Scottish Register of Tartans, with a registration date prior to the launch of the register.

What is the History of the Clan Lyon?

Clan Lyon is a Scottish clan associated with the lands of Glen Lyon in Perthshire, Scotland. but it is believed to be an element of The Clan Lamont. Genealogist Sir Iain Moncreiffe stated that the Lyons were a family of Celtic origin and that they were descended from a younger son of the Clan Lamont. However, it is more generally accepted that the Lyons descend from a French family called de Léon. At the end of the 11th century, the de Leons had come north with Edgar, son of Malcolm III of Scotland, to fight against his uncle, Donald Bane. Edgar was victorious, and the de Leons received lands that were later called Glen Lyon in Perthshire. The seat of the chief of Clan Lyon is at Glamis Castle in Angus, Scotland. The clan has produced several notable figures throughout history, including Patrick Lyon, who was created Earl of Kinghorne, Viscount Lyon, and Baron Glamis in 1606. Overall, the history of the Clan Lyon is a fascinating story of a Scottish clan with a rich heritage and notable figures.

What is the Motto of Clan Lyon?

The motto of the Clan Lyon is "In Te Domine Speravi," which translates to "In thee, O Lord, have I put my trust". The motto is a Latin phrase that reflects the clan's religious beliefs and values.
